big one au texas speedway

voici le resumé de la course de Sprint Cup lundi reporte du a un rain delay dimanche , malgré sa pole position fin course desastreuse pour Tony Stewart Late Accident Ends Stewart’s Promising Day at Texas
Office Depot/Old Spice Driver Leads 74 Laps, but Finishes Disappointing 32nd

Date: April 19, 2010
Event: Samsung Mobile 500 (Round 8 of 36)
Series: NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
Location: Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth (1.5-mile oval)
Start/Finish: 1st/32nd (Accident, completed 317 of 334 laps)
Winner: Denny Hamlin of Joe Gibbs Racing (Toyota)

A day that began with a lot of promise and a start from the pole ended with a wrecked Office Depot/Old Spice Chevrolet Impala and a disappointing 32nd-place finish for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) driver/owner Tony Stewart.

The Columbus, Ind., native led five times for 74 laps in Monday’s rain-postponed Samsung Mobile 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, but Stewart’s 400th career Sprint Cup start ended badly when he was involved in a late-race multi-car accident that left him with his first DNF (Did Not Finish) of 2010.

Stewart, who started from the pole and led the race’s first 15 laps, was in sixth place on lap 312 of the 334-lap race when a caution came out for David Reutimann’s blown engine. When the lead lap cars pitted one lap later, Stewart and crew chief Darian Grubb elected to take only two tires along with the teams of Jeff Burton, Denny Hamlin, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Greg Biffle and Kyle Busch. Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon and Matt Kenseth elected to take four tires, which put them behind the six drivers who opted only for right-side tires.

The race restarted on lap 317 with Burton leading, Stewart in second and Hamlin in third. Stewart fell back slightly and as he entered turn four, he and four-time Sprint Cup champion Jeff Gordon, who had restarted eighth, made contact and set off a wild, nine-car accident on the frontstretch. In addition to Stewart and Gordon, the wreck collected Joey Logano, Jamie McMurray, Clint Bowyer, Juan Pablo Montoya, A.J. Allmendinger, Paul Menard and Carl Edwards.

The No. 14 Office Depot/Old Spice Chevrolet suffered heavy damage all the way around and was unable to continue, forcing Stewart to take his only finish outside the top-30 this season.

The two-time Sprint Cup champion was checked and released from the Texas Motor Speedway infield medical center without injury.

“I came off of (turn) four there and bounced off of Jeff’s (Gordon) right rear,” Stewart said. “It was just a pendulum and I lost it and got into his right rear, and then I got us to where neither one of us could get away from it. Somebody put me three-wide in (turns) one and two and that got me up to where I got a lot of junk on my tires and that started it. It was my fault. I feel bad about it, about doing something stupid like that. I didn’t plan on getting loose, but it is 100 percent my fault.”

Following the accident, Stewart and Gordon spoke to each other after exiting their damaged racecars.

“I think he (Gordon) was worried that I was going to be upset about it on his side,” Stewart said. “It wasn’t his fault, obviously. I got a chance to see it in the infield care center, it is definitely my fault. I apologize to all the teams and drivers that got caught up and their fans for it. We had a really good car there and just a shame that it happened.”

Hamlin won the Samsung Mobile 500 to score his 10th career Sprint Cup victory, his second of the season and his first at Texas. Four-time and reigning Sprint Cup champion Johnson finished .152 of a second behind Hamlin, while Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch and Kasey Kahne rounded out the top-five. Mark Martin, Kevin Harvick, Earnhardt Jr., Martin Truex Jr., and Greg Biffle comprised the remainder of the top-10. Ryan Newman, Stewart’s teammate at SHR, finished 11th.

There were seven caution periods for 32 laps, with 14 drivers failing to finish the 501-mile race.

With round eight of 36 complete, Stewart and Joey Logano are tied for 12th in the Sprint Cup championship standings. Stewart fell four spots and now has 941 points, 307 markers behind series leader Johnson. Newman remained 16th in the standings. He has 932 points and is 316 points back of Johnson.

The next event on the Sprint Cup schedule is the April 25 Aaron’s 499 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. The race starts at 1 p.m. EDT with live coverage provided by FOX beginning with its pre-race show at noon.

opération réussi pour Denny Hamlin

Hamlin to have knee surgery on Wed UPDATE 2 surgery done: Surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in #11-Denny Hamlin's left knee will not limit the Sprint Cup driver behind the wheel for the next race, according to one of the doctors that will perform the operation on Wednesday. "I anticipate by the time he gets to Phoenix [April 8-10] he'll have a pretty normal knee for all intents and purposes," said Dr. Bill Heisel, who will assist Dr. Patrick Connor of OrthoCarolina in Charlotte, N.C. Heisel said the winner of Monday's race at Martinsville Speedway may be in some pain or discomfort for a few weeks after the surgery, but added that range of motion to use the brake or clutch won't be impacted. "He's going to feel something, even at Phoenix," Heisel said. "The big thing is to control the swelling to get the motion going. Straight ahead he should be pretty good. Obviously, what you don't want him to do is wreck the car. But I anticipate he's going to be able to clutch and brake pretty quickly." Heisel said the procedure will involve making tunnels through Hamlin's shin bone and thigh bone to pass the tendons from a cadaver into place and lock each end with a screw. He said physical therapy will begin immediately to improve mobility and strengthen the quadriceps, and that Hamlin will have to wear a brace for a while when not in the car. "He'll be back running in three months," Heisel said. Surgery was delayed until Wednesday after Sunday's race was rained out.(ESPN)(3-30-2010)
UPDATE: Hamlin will only need clearance from his doctor to resume competing in NASCAR, according to officials with the sanctioning body. "He only needs to be cleared by his doctor, he needs for him to say it's OK for him to return & that he's good [to go]," NASCAR's Ramsey Poston, managing director, corporate communications, said Tuesday. While Poston said there's no formal paperwork that must be submitted, such as copies of Hamlin's medical records, the sanctioning body could request such records if there was a concern. That typically isn't the case, Poston said. As far as the use of painkillers or other medicine following surgery, Poston said "that's part of the conversation we have with any driver. Any misuse is a violation & it's pretty standard." Poston said it is unlikely officials would be concerned about Hamlin's ability to compete when he does return to the track. "We've had drivers [compete with] a whole lot worse than ACL [injuries]," he said. Dr. Patrick Connor with OrthoCarolina will perform the surgery [today].(SceneDaily)(3-31-2010)
UPDATE 2: Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) announced Denny Hamlin, driver of the #11 FedEx Toyota in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, had successful surgery to repair the ACL in his left knee this morning. The surgery was performed by Dr. Patrick Connor with OrthoCarolina. Hamlin injured the knee in January prior to the start of the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season. He is expected to make a full recovery and will be in Phoenix as scheduled for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on April 10. JGR will have driver Casey Mears on standby should Hamlin experience any complications while driving in the race and need to be replaced in the car. "Denny had his surgery this morning and everything went well," said J.D. Gibbs, president of Joe Gibbs Racing. "He will start rehab immediately and now we can concentrate on getting his knee back to the full strength. The doctors tell us it will improve with each passing week and that he cannot damage it by driving. We expect him to be in the car in Phoenix, but we're fortunate to have Casey Mears standing by in case he would need to come out of the car for any reason."(JGR)(3-31-2010) source www.jayski.com

essai de nouveau aileron la semaine prochaine

Spoiler's replace the wing starting at Martinsville: The spoiler officially will replace the wing on Sprint Cup cars for the March 28 race at Martinsville Speedway, NASCAR vice president of competition Robin Pemberton said Wednesday. The process of shipping spoilers to all the teams began on Monday. "We feel it should go fairly smooth," Pemberton said. NASCAR has targeted Martinsville for months, believing it will be best to start with the spoiler at a short track where aerodynamics won't be a major factor. The spoiler has been used at intermediate tracks such as Texas and Darlington during tire tests with no complications. "It ran better and had a little more downforce," Pemberton said. A full test with all teams is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Officials were pleased with the results from a 24-team test at Talladega Superspeedway on Tuesday. Pemberton said a standard four-inch high spoiler will be used at all short tracks and intermediate tracks. The height and width of superspeedway spoilers has not been finalized for Talladega and Daytona.(ESPN.com)(3-18-2010)

sanction pour Edwards

Carl Edwards sera en probation pour 3 courses . NASCAR To Meet With Edwards, Keselowski: NASCAR Vice President of Competition Robin Pemberton said Wednesday that officials from the sanctioning body will meet with #99-Carl Edwards and #12-Bred Keselowski and their respective team owners at some point this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, site of Sunday's Food City 500. What Pemberton wouldn't discuss is what is likely to be said at those meetings. But it's a pretty good bet there will be a stern warning to both drivers to stay away from each other. In April 2009 at Talladega Superspeedway, the two made contact at the start-finish line on the final lap of the race. Keselowski won, Edwards bounced off the hood of Ryan Newman's car and into the catchfence separating the cars from the grandstands. At Atlanta Motor Speedway on March 7, the two locked horns again, this time twice. The first contact, which occurred early in the race, resulted in Edwards going into the wall and losing more than 100 laps for repairs. The second contact occurred two laps before the scheduled end of the Kobalt Tools 500, when Edwards deliberately bumped Keselowski, turning his car sideways, whereupon it rolled upside down on its roof at 190 miles per hour. For making that move, Edwards received probation for three races source www.jayski.com

Payback time pour Carl Edwards ????????????

Suite a l incident de dimanche Edwards/keselowski a Atlanta ,les dirigents de NASCAR analyse le tout pour voir s il porteront une pénalité au 99 Carl Edwards. •NASCAR looking closely into Edwards incident: Brad Keselowski called for fellow Sprint Cup driver Carl Edwards to be suspended for at least one race after Edwards wrecked him Sunday in the Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. But Robin Pemberton, vice president of competition for NASCAR, said the governing body would take its time in examining all the facts before deciding what to do with Edwards, whose #99 Roush Fenway Ford was ordered to the garage after wrecking the #12 of Keselowski and sending it airborne on the frontstretch on Lap 323 of what was a scheduled 325-lap event. Pemberton and other NASCAR officials, including president Mike Helton, met with Edwards following Sunday's race -- but Pemberton said they would discuss the incident further "internally" on Monday and Tuesday before announcing any additional penalties for Edwards by late Tuesday afternoon. "It looked like it could have been a payback from the #99 on the #12," Pemberton said. The two drivers got together earlier during Sunday's race when they bumped on Lap 41 and Edwards ended up getting shoved into the #20 Toyota of Joey Logano, effectively ruining both of their days. Keselowski, meanwhile, drove away from that incident and went on to put together a solid run for the day while Edwards spent much of the afternoon having his car repaired in the garage. Edwards returned to the track on Lap 190 after spending 150 laps in the garage, and appeared to purposely wreck Keselowski when Keselowski appeared headed for a top-five finish. "To come back and intentionally wreck someone, that's not cool," Keselowski said. "You could have killed someone in the grandstands. I know that it's a little ironic that it's me saying that, but at least I didn't do it intentionally [when it happened at Talladega]. It will be interesting to see how NASCAR reacts to it. They have the ball. If they're going to allow people to intentionally wreck each other at tracks this fast, we will hurt someone either in the cars or in the grandstands. It's not cool to wreck someone at 195 mph." Pemberton indicated that Edwards more or less admitted in the post-race meeting with NASCAR officials that he intended to wreck Keselowski, but that he did not mean to send him airborne. Keselowski's car ended up landing upside down, nearly crushing in the driver's side of the roof, and was completely destroyed in the aftermath. Keselowski was shaken up after the wreck and needed assistance getting removed from the car, but eventually was cleared at the AMS infield care center. "Carl said he got into him; he said he didn't expect the result," Pemberton said. Earlier, Edwards spoke briefly with the media and attempted to explain his thinking. "Brad knows the deal between him and I," Edwards said. "The scary part was his car went airborne, which was not at all what I expected. At the end of the day, we're out here to race and people have to have respect for one another and I have a lot of respect for people's safety. I wish it wouldn't have gone like it did, but I'm glad he's OK and we'll just go on and race some more and maybe him and I won't get in any more incidents together. That would be the best thing." Keselowski told reporters that he believed Edwards took "three swipes" at him before connecting, and that Edwards deserves to be suspended for at least one race. He also defended what had occurred during their first incident Sunday. "He cut down on me on a restart and I lifted; I couldn't lift fast enough for him," Keselowski said. "I lifted for him to let him in, but I was there. I don't know what more you can do. "[Keep the] car low, that's what they say. So I was underneath him, tried to cut him a break. It was too late, though; he turned down. I apologized to him, but there was nothing that I could do in that situation."(NASCAR.com)(3-8-2010) source www.nascar.com et www.jayski.com

Jamie McMurray honnoré pour sa victoire au daytona 500

McMurray honored in home state Missouri: #1-Jamie McMurray continued to celebrate his Daytona 500 championship by returning to his home state of Missouri on Wednesday and Thursday this week. The driver made two stops, a surprise visit to the Bass Pro Shops General Manager's conference in Branson and to the State Capitol of Jefferson City to be honored by state dignitaries. The theme of the 2010 edition of Bass Pro Shops General Manager's conference "Crossroads" could not have been any more appropriate, as the company looks to turn the next corner in their own history so too does Earnhardt Ganassi Racing's Jamie McMurray. This very reason is why Bass Pro Shops Founder/CEO, Johnny Morris invited McMurray to be a surprise guest for their dinner on Wednesday, Feb. 24. McMurray's story of inspiration and perseverance brought this group of manager's and corporate representatives from Bass Pro Shops to their feet as McMurray revved the engine of his replica Daytona 500 winning car, driving it right into the ballroom where the manager's were seated for dinner. The Bass Pro Shops family is just that, a family, and the manager's welcomed McMurray into their family with a standing ovation. Johnny Morris then presented McMurray with a special gift from the company, not only recognizing Jamie's success on the race track but forever tying Jamie to his home state of Missouri. Jamie was presented with a set of Indian artifacts - stone axe heads, found buried on the site of what is now modern-day Joplin, MO (Jamie's hometown).Governor Jay Nixon and Senator Gary Nodler of the 32nd District welcomed McMurray to the state capitol on Thursday, Feb. 25 to honor him by proclaiming the day as Jamie McMurray Day in the state of Missouri. Upon arrival to the Jefferson City Airport, McMurray was greeted by Missouri State Troopers ready to escort him to the state capitol to be honored. However, this was no ordinary motorcade as McMurray and Bass Pro Shops Founder/CEO Johnny Morris proceeded to drive away in a replica of McMurray's Daytona 500 winning #1 Bass Pro Shops / Tracker Boats Chevrolet. Upon arrival to the state capitol, McMurray and Morris were greeted by hundreds of fans and legislators ready to honor their accomplished Missourians. Governor Nixon then proclaimed the day as Jamie McMurray day and also recognized the accomplishments of Bass Pro Shops Founder before the two were whisked into the State Senate Chamber and State House of Representatives. The gentlemen were once again recognized before each group of legislators. The two then headed off to Senator Nodler's office for a lunch reception, photos, and many an autograph signing as legislators and office assistants came to see the most recent sports hero from Missouri.(EGR)(2-27-2010) sources www.egr.com
